Preschool & School Age Support (3–9 Years)
When expectations grow, confidence matters.
The preschool and early school years bring rapid change.
Children are expected to sit longer, listen carefully, use their hands with precision, communicate clearly and manage social situations independently.
Some children move into this stage with ease.
Others need small adjustments to feel capable and confident.
At Lifespan Therapies in Brendale, we support preschool and primary school children across the Moreton Bay region with practical, collaborative allied health support.
Common Reasons Families Reach Out
Families often contact us because they notice:
Fine motor challenges (drawing, cutting, pencil grasp, handwriting)
Avoidance of writing or fatigue during table tasks
Difficulty sitting still or sustaining attention
Sensory sensitivities to noise, clothing or busy environments
Concerns raised by kindy teachers or classroom educators
Delayed speech clarity or difficulty being understood
Challenges following multi-step instructions
Limited confidence in playground play
Coordination or clumsiness during sport
Emotional overwhelm in group settings
Sometimes it’s subtle.
Sometimes it’s becoming more obvious.
Both are valid reasons to check in with us
Preschool & Kindy Years (3-5 years)
This stage is about readiness - not perfection
Parents may wonder about:
Pencil grasp and pre-writing skills
Using scissors and manipulating small objects
Following group instructions and routines
Social play and turn-taking
Early speech clarity and sentence development
Emotional regulation, especially in busy environments
Independence with dressing, toileting and lunch routines
Early support at this stage builds foundations before academic expectations increase. Small gains in fine motor skills, communication and regulation can make transitions into Prep significantly smoother.
Our Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists work closely together to support school readiness in a practical, play-based way.
Kindy & School Readiness Check-Ins
If you’re noticing emerging concerns during the preschool years, we offer supportive developmental screening sessions both in our Brendale clinic and in collaboration with selected early learning centres across the Moreton Bay region.
Screenings provide:
A snapshot of fine motor and pre-writing skills
Speech clarity and language review
Regulation and attention observations
Practical feedback for families
These sessions are gentle check-ins designed to support school readiness and confidence — not diagnostic assessments.
If your child attends a centre that partners with us, screening may be available on-site. If not, you can still register interest and let us know your child’s centre. We welcome conversations with centres where families are seeking additional support options.
Early Primary Years (5-9 Years)
As children enter school, expectations shift quickly.
Families may seek support for:
• Handwriting fatigue or avoidance
• Messy or inconsistent letter formation
• Difficulty organising belongings or completing tasks
• Speech clarity impacting confidence
• Language comprehension challenges
• Struggles with reading readiness
• Difficulty joining playground games
• Coordination challenges in PE or sport
• Frustration, shutdown or emotional overwhelm
Support during this stage focuses on participation — not just skill acquisition.
We aim to strengthen the skills that allow children to feel capable in the classroom, on the playground and at home.
How we Support School-Age Children
Our team provides collaborative support across occupational therapy, speech pathology and physiotherapy where needed.
Occupational Therapy may focus on:
• Fine motor and handwriting development
• Sensory regulation
• Attention and task organisation
• Self-care and independence
• Emotional regulation strategies
Speech Pathology may support:
• Speech clarity and articulation
• Language comprehension and expression
• Social communication
• Confidence in classroom participation
Physiotherapy may support:
• Coordination and balance
• Core strength and posture
• Motor planning
• Confidence in sport and playground activities
We prioritise practical strategies that transfer beyond the clinic — into classrooms, playgrounds and daily routines.
Early Support Builds Confidence
Many families are told to “wait and see.”
Sometimes waiting is appropriate.
But when a child’s confidence is affected — academically, socially or physically — early guidance can prevent small gaps from widening.
Support does not mean labelling.
It means strengthening foundations so children can participate fully in the environments that matter most.

How Lifespan Therapies Supports Families
Every family’s situation is different. Some are seeking reassurance. Others need structured, ongoing support. Many are simply unsure where to begin.
Our approach is consistent across physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology:
• Collaborative and family-centred
• Focused on participation in everyday life
• Strength-based and practical
• Calm, clear and free from fear-based messaging
• Grounded in real-world environments — home, school and sport
We don’t believe therapy should feel overwhelming or overly clinical. Our goal is to provide clarity, build confidence and support meaningful progress — at a pace that feels right for your child and your family.
